Antique Letter Opener Deer aloof Foot; Solingen; Germany

Description

This is an antique letter opener measuring almost 11 inches long. Comprised of a 5 1/4 inch section of a small fur covered deer hoof foot. The metal blade is marked on the base as “Schreiber & Sons, Solingen, Germany”. The cross–guard is made of brass and wobbles a bit. You can splice a rubber washer to put beneath it, glue it in place, or use as is. It does not impact using the opener at all. Hoof foot fur is all there. Hoof is fine on the front with the original brass rivet still there to hold the toes together. Back is missing a small section. It seems stable. But, you can add epoxy or glue if you like.
