1968 is the first year that the U.S. Mint returned to the production of proof coins. Collectors had voiced their displeasure with the quality of SMS coins and the removal of mint marks from coins.
This 5-coin proof set, that was acquired by me many years ago, has been stored to protect the coins and the original U.S. Mint packaging. T
he coins are brilliant with mirrored fields and lots of luster. With exception of the 40% silver composition of the Kennedy Half Dollar, all other coins are of the clad composition that had been introduced in 1965. The set is displayed in the new style plastic holder introduced by the U.S. Mint and comes in the protective custom sleeve.
